(Read the script attached below before reading the post.)

This screenplay was the first I wrote in my time at John Paul The Great Catholic University. I wrote it in my first screenwriting class with Professor Christopher Riley and the editorial help of my classmates as well.
While lacking a main theme, the short script is very character driven. The two characters came from an idea I had a long time ago to write a modern day Bonnie and Clyde where the Clyde was actually just manipulating a young and infatuated Bonnie. With this assignment, I narrowed down a long winding story to a five page script which took on the essential story of my previous idea. The story progresses and we learn with Naomi that Jake is not in fact as charming as he seemed initially. As the stress of the moment wears on and Jake and Naomi realize that escape from the police is unlikely, Naomi contemplates her options. In the final moment, Naomi kills Jake instead of shooting at the police.
If I had to draw a theme out of the script, I would say it is about the loss of innocence. Most people at some point in life have a moment where the world seems to lose its glow: (Like a death, a divorce, a betrayal, etc.) Our innocence is lost and we have to choose how to move on from it. There are only ever two options: let tragedy destroy you, or overcome it. In the end, Cecilia has these two options. She can die to the police in a bloody shootout, letting Jake's manipulation win out, or she can grit her teeth, shoot Jake, and live. She makes the right choice and the finality of the moment is the conclusive emotional beat that ends the story.
